The standard normal distribution has mean 0 and standard deviation 1. P(Z < z) is the area to the left of z, the value printed in most z-tables. Example: P(Z < 1.96) ≈ 0.97500, so 95% of values lie between −1.96 and 1.96.
| z | P(Z < z) |
|---|---|
| -3 | 0.0013 |
| -2.5 | 0.0062 |
| -2 | 0.0228 |
| -1.645 | 0.0500 |
| -1 | 0.1587 |
| 0 | 0.5000 |
| 1 | 0.8413 |
| 1.645 | 0.9500 |
| 1.96 | 0.9750 |
| 2 | 0.9772 |
| 2.326 | 0.9900 |
| 2.576 | 0.9950 |
| 3 | 0.9987 |
Values are computed with a standard numerical approximation accurate to about 7 decimal places.
