How to calculate hours worked

  1. Convert both times to minutes after midnight.
  2. Subtract start from end. If the result is negative, the shift crossed midnight: add 24 hours (1,440 minutes).
  3. Subtract unpaid breaks.
  4. Divide by 60 for decimal hours, which payroll uses: 7 h 30 m = 7.5 h.
