ABV formulas

Standard: ABV = (OG − FG) × 131.25 Alternate: ABV = 76.08 × (OG − FG) ÷ (1.775 − OG) × FG ÷ 0.794

The standard formula is accurate for typical beers; the alternate formula is often preferred above about 7–8% ABV. Measure gravity with a hydrometer at its calibration temperature (or correct for temperature); refractometer readings after fermentation need a separate alcohol correction.
